IGES Laura Delgado López Invited to Moscow for MIT/Skoltech Initiative
June 10, 2013
IGES Earth Observations Associate Laura Delgado López has been invited to a weeklong workshop in Moscow, Russia as part of an initiative of the Massachussets Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech), a private graduate research university in Skolkovo, Russia.
According to its website, the MIT/Skoltech International Space Exploration Strategy Group is “executing a collaborative study to create an international vision for future space exploration activities.” Delgado López joins other graduate students and recent graduates from around the world in identifying the rationales, technologies and destinations of this strategy.
Delgado López, who is mainly contributing to the exploration rationales discussion, is currently participating in the first part of the project during which all 23 participants engage in online collaboration to think through the key elements of the strategy. In July, she will join selected participants from this group for the second part of the initiative, a weeklong workshop in Skoltech to draft a report synthesizing the recommendations for a future exploration strategy.
“I am honored and excited to be a part of this project and engage with other future policy makers and researchers from around the world, “said Delgado López. “It is unique opportunity to have an influence in the direction of space activities, in which Earth observations and science education will continue to play a critical role.”
