Colleton: Hurricane Sandy Provides Exceptional Opportunity for Bipartisanship on Weather

January 8, 2013

A recent editorial by IGES President Nancy Colleton argues that Superstorm Sandy provides a real opportunity for bipartisanship to evolve U.S. environmental and forecasting capabilities to better reduce and manage risk.

In “Hurricane Sandy, protecting America, and bipartisanship beyond a hug,” published yesterday on The Washington Post’s Capital Weather Gang, Colleton calls for a “super system” of environmental intelligence that “is better equipped to handle an increasing number of extreme events like those that have battered this nation in recent years.” Among the key steps to drive this evolution forward, Colleton highlights the need to commit to new leadership in this area.
