2006 Art Contest: Going to Extremes: Polar Exploration

IGES 11th Annual Art Contest for Children Grades 2-4

Winners Announced!

Thanks to all who participated in the 2006 Art Contest. We received a record number of entries! Over 1,400 students submitted artwork to the contest this year!

This year's contest challenged young artists to explore the Earth's polar regions: either the northern (Arctic) or southern (Antarctic).

After learning about these extreme regions, we asked students to pick a polar region to explore and then draw some of the things that they learned. Here are the winners and the winning artwork.

Certificates were mailed in late December to all students who entered the 2006 contest.

If you would like to use this contest as a class or group activity, click here. We collected a comprehensive set of resources, lesson plans & activities, as well as information on the national education standards.
