Sitting in the
Front
In a traditional, face-to-face classroom, the most interested students
sit front row center in the classroom, where the action is revolving around
the teacher. These students don't want to miss anything.
Knowledge-building
Unlike the traditional classroom, this virtual cooperative learning
environment has two main areas that hold the action: your Portfolio and
the "Teacher As" spaces. Your Portfolio contains your assignments
and reflection on what you are learning. The "Teacher As" spaces
are where you and your teammates collaborate to build knowledge together.
Over time, the "Teacher As" spaces capture the collective insight
of your team.
Regular contributions
By regularly contributing to your Portfolio
and visiting the "Teacher
As" spaces, and of course, contributing new ideas and comments on
others' ideas, you can stay on top of the action in the Classroom just
as if you were sitting front row center. If you are unsure of what to
contribute, try one of these:
- read through other contributions and summarize them
- comment on something that you read that was
particularly interesting
- talk about what you don't
know
or wonder about
- describe a good resource
you found and point to its listing in Resource
Space
- ask a question
Posting to your Portfolio The
first time you go to the Portfolio, it
will be to complete the Pre-Course
Survey
. Click there and complete the survey as if you were ordering
something on line.
For regular weekly assignments,
first create your assignment in a word processor. Then review it using
the Rubric for that week. You will need to rate your work and give a reason
for the rating on each criterion. Go to the Classroom,
and choose the week you wish to enter. Log in. The next screen you see
will give you the chance to submit an assignment. Double check to be sure
you are in the right week, then choose individual or team assignment,
and cut and paste your work into the submit box. The rubric for that assignment
will come up. Rate your work on each criterion. Then submit.. Return to
the main page, and choose Edit assignments to check to see what you just
submitted and the ratings.
